Automechanika 25 Survey Results

Tom Bateman

At the start of June, we attended Automechanika Birmingham 2025! The bi-annual trade show brings together some of the largest, most influential brands in the automotive industry, showing off everything from workshop equipment to online systems to advanced battery maintenance tools.

With over 15,000 people expected to visit the show from all different areas and backgrounds, we wanted to gain insight into industry opinions and find out how workshops are currently supporting Electric Vehicles.

Insight

This data suggests that whilst most service centres often service electric vehicles, a large majority of them do not service the main propulsion pack and only service other parts such as brakes, tyres, suspension and steering.

Our team recommend Midtronics xMB-9640 AFT to allow service centres to assess and balance the EV battery packs on a module level.

Are you intending to service EV's?

Yes 80%
No 20%

Do you believe your workshop is EV Ready?

Yes 58%
No 42%

What services would you like to offer your customers?

Insight

Whilst a majority of workshops intend to service EV’s, a large amount of workshops are not yet ready to service them.

A large majority of people expressed interest in maintaining EV 12V Auxillary batteries over maintaining the main Lithium pack. Midtronics xLVS-9000 has been designed to test and support 12V EV batteries where reserve capacity is the important measurement unlike cold cranking ability found in ICE vehicles.

In both ICE and EV’s, maintaining 12V battery health is critical for ensuring vehicle safety and reliability. Currently 12V battery testing is NOT an official part of the MOT inspection. We asked visitors if they believe it should be.

Yes 50%
No 42%
Not Sure 8%

Insight

This question clearly divided opinion. A majority did agree however a large amount of people did think that testing shouldn’t form part of the MOT. As a safety critical part, we push service providers to test every vehicles battery as often as possible to prevent breakdowns.

Thank you to all of our visitors who completed our survey this year at Automechanika Birmingham 2025!

We hope you have found the survey data useful and given useful insight into industry opinions and how invested the aftermarket is in servicing Electric Vehicles. Do you agree with the results or have any other opinions to share? We want to know!
