Out today in the The Commercial Vehicle Workshop April Edition "A thought-provoking comment by Ken Clark, Managing Director of the CV Show exhibitors Rotronics, on the practical benefits of a battery management programme."
Snap shot of what it includes:
The battery is the heartbeat of any vehicle and is similar to the human heart in that it must be looked after, maintained and checked regularly to avoid considerable problems – in a vehicle, that means roadside defects and rising avoidable costs. If any vehicle battery is ignored and left to its own devices, it is likely to have a reduced lifespan of 50%, and the impact of poor maintenance could easily account for up to 20% of annual battery related costs.
Rotronics (www.rotronicsbms.com) are specialists in battery management solutions and the UK partners of Midtronics. A battery management programme has been devised by Rotronics, working closely with a wide range of commercial vehicle customers in order to reduce
SESSIONS FROM ROTRONICS
Midlands-based Rotronics (www.rotronicsbms.com), who are at the forefront of battery management innovations and service solutions in the UK, conducted their first global training session via Webex for Midtronics Brazil and USA, to provide guidance on optimising the performance of Midtronics’ chargers, fault diagnosis and repair processes.
Six delegates from Chicago and Brazil joined Rotronics managing director, Ken Clark, and his team for the hour-long Webex training session on the Midtronics CXPRO50/2 chargers. Rotronics has been the UK distributor for the Midtronics range of products since 2003 and was asked to conduct the training programme for the global team by Midtronics because of their in-depth knowledge of the products and battery management solutions.
Ken Clark, managing director at Rotronics, says: “This was a fantastic first for us, to be able to share the knowledge

Last night, Ken Clark, Managing Director of Rotronics, lead a lecture and practical demonstration at Northamptonshire College for the Northamptonshire Member Association of the IMI (The Institute of the Motor Industry). The event was organised to support individuals working in the Motor Industry.
Rotronics is the UK partner for Midtronics battery management technology and specialises in battery management solutions. Working with their customers, they deliver simple, effective battery and electrical system testing processes that integrate into every-day workshop practices.
Says Ken Clark: "We had a fantastic evening with delegates from a range of automotive workshops across the region who were keen to learn from our expertise in order to maximise fault diagnosis, increase workshop productivity and customer service within their workshops. During the evening we discussed many aspects of battery maintenance
Battery balancing is a concept that many workshops will not be familiar with. However, Rotronics asserts that it can play a key role in reducing downtime and increasing costs.
Vehicles are constantly evolving to keep up-to-date with technological advances and the harsher pressures they are facing on our roads; and no component of the vehicle bears the brunt of these pressures more than the battery, asserts Easystart.
Each of our battery training programmes revolve around your business. Firstly, we get to know the needs of your business, understanding all aspects of battery care and maintenance from start to finish. This means that the modules in the programme are created and designed around your workshop needs and requirements.
CVW’s new Editor, Alex Juggins, pays a visit to the battery management experts at Rotronics, to get the full story on the company’s Battery Management Programmes – which include free training for customers.
Our Managing Director Ken Clark, has been out and about again spreading his wisdom on Battery Management. This time Ken visited Sussex IMI regional meeting, with over 25 members spanning across all automotive segments.
The presentation covered a range of topics including; Industry Perception, Battery Testing, Battery Management Programmes and much more. Ken invited the audience to give reviews on the website and the presentation. Here are just some of the reviews Ken received;
“Just a quick mail to say thank you for such an informative and enjoyable lecture last night. I got a lot from it, and certainly you raised many thought provoking ideas.” Mike Read, IMI Sussex Centre MA Vice Chairman and Treasurer.
“Thank you so much for your very informative lecture last evening. It was very evident from the questions and discussions that took place at the end just how interested the members were with what you had to say on the subject of battery management”. Douglas Wragg,
Battery maintenance is a fairly unknown sector, so we have identified just some of the industry perceptions that are out there
It's was great to see the support of The AA on twitter yesterday. They have been working in partnership with Rotronics for many years, using our Midtronics battery testers which, as they say, can analyse the battery with the bonnet closed and the car locked.
But why?? is the question that someone asked. As the AA so succinctly said, it is to ensure the car is shutting down sufficiently once locked. They are referring to the testers ability in performing a “shut down” profile of the vehicles electrical system, to identify any out of the ordinary loads or defects that may cause the battery to drain.

Rotronics is delighted to be supporting the RAC with the Midtronics DSS 7000
It seems blindingly obvious to say that workshop teams should only use the most appropriate equipment, but not all testers on the market will identify any parasitic drains that are present. This will cause fatigue over time, not what a driver needs in busy summer traffic.
Rotronics Battery Management Systems, part of the Rubery Owen list of companies, are the UK supplier for CTEK products.
The CTEK Pro 60 Smart Battery Charger and Support Unit was reviewed in a Special Product Test Report in the Professional Motor Mechanic Magazine in February 2017. Mark Whitworth of Autospark Ltd took charge of of the testing and this is what he had to
“Our Battery Management Programmes show considerable savings for fleet owners and managers, reduce non-starts and improve battery replacements. It is important to introduce the correct diagnostics and test-and-charge processes into your workshop. The full electrical system and battery test, using the correct equipment, takes under two minutes to complete.”
Introducing a showroom charging solution, to ensure reliable battery performance, enhance the customer experience and protect vehicle manufacturer and retailer reputation.
The Rotronics team believes that many of the issues that arise are totally avoidable with some simple and speedy checks that can be built into everyday workshop routine inspections.

Our Rotronics Online Battery Information System (ROBIS) is up against four other companies.
Our ROBIS system went live in February 2018 and has already won ‘Best use of Technology’ at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce.
ROBIS has already helped a range of companies manage their fleet batteries effectively. It delivers “under the microscope” information of workshop battery testing carried out on vehicles as part of everyday vehicle maintenance. This enables us to offer regular advice and feedback on how to increase vehicle reliability and workshop productivity and monitors the correct use of equipment by individual technicians within a given workshop.
The award recognised innovative business models, products and services implemented within the business, offering a point of difference to competitors.
